The game and its rules
Are there levels or a time limit?
This is one continuous game with no timer. When you clear the board, the starting rows return and you keep adding to your score. The game ends when bubbles reach the bottom boundary.
What counts as a miss?
Any shot that fails to remove a group of three or more bubbles of the same colour. A successful shot doesn't use up a miss, but it doesn't restore any you've already used. When you reach your miss limit, new rows are added at the top and the counter resets.
Why are two or three rows sometimes added?
Eliminate every bubble of one colour and that colour temporarily stops appearing in new rows. The next batch adds two rows instead of one. Eliminate a second colour and it adds three. No more than three rows are added at once. Clearing the entire board brings back all colours you've unlocked and returns each batch to one row.
When do new colours appear?
The fifth colour becomes available at 1,500 points, and the sixth at 5,000. A new colour arrives with the next scheduled batch of rows, at least ten shots after the game started or the previous colour was introduced. Intermediate starts with five colours; Expert uses all six from the start.
How do I change the difficulty?
Open settings using the button at the top of the page and select Game. Before your first shot, the change takes effect straight away. If you've already fired a shot, you'll be offered a new game on your chosen difficulty or the option to keep playing your current game. Your high scores are saved separately for each difficulty.
Devices, controls and sound
How do I play on a phone or with a keyboard?
On a touchscreen, touch the board, drag your finger to aim and release to shoot. With a keyboard, press Tab to focus the board. Use ← and → to adjust your aim, Space or Enter to shoot, and Esc to pause. With a mouse, move to aim, then press and release the button on the board.
Why is the board wider on another screen?
A new game on a large screen uses the HD grid, with 17 bubbles in its longer rows. Smaller screens use the standard grid with 10. Resizing the window during a game only changes the scale; the grid stays the same. Both board sizes share the same high score list for each difficulty.
What should I do if I can't hear the music?
First, touch the game or press a button. Your browser may allow sound only after you interact with the page. Check the sound button at the top of the page, the music volume in settings and your device volume. Music and sound effects have separate controls. If you still can't hear anything, reload the page and try again.
Can I reduce the effects?
Yes. In the Game settings, turn on Less animation or choose a lower graphics quality. In Style, you can change the palette and background. In Sound, you can turn off the music or sound effects.
Saved games and help
Where are my game, scores and achievements stored?
In this site's data in your browser. There are currently no accounts or shared leaderboards. A different browser, device or website address uses separate storage. Your results aren't synced between them.
Will my game be saved when I close the page?
Yes, if your browser allows local storage and the site's data hasn't been deleted. Your current game is saved automatically, so you can continue when you come back. In private browsing, data may disappear when you close the window. If storage is blocked, progress lasts only until you close or reload the page.
How do I delete my saved data?
Clear the data for bubble-shooter.net in your browser settings. This deletes your current game, settings, statistics, achievements and local high scores. There's no server copy, so we can't restore them. The privacy policy explains how this works.
How do I report a bug or suggest an idea?
You'll find our contact email on the About page. For a bug report, include your device, browser and the steps that led to the problem. A screenshot will help us understand what happened.
